Chandelier Project

When I chose my title  "31 Days of  Being Creative"
perhaps it should have been 31 Days of Projects or something else.
I will not be creating in the sense that some might think, but I prefer to look at many
aspects of creativity. Sometimes this will be seeing things, not necessarily as they
are, but what they can be. Sometimes that means improving upon what is already there.

Here is today's project.
I purchased this chandelier earlier this year for $2.00 at the thrift store.
I knew that I would need a light fixture of a substantial size to hang over my dining room table.
Often that means substantial $$as well.
When I spotted this fixture I knew it would be perfect and the style was perfect.

The only problem being the slightly pinkish color.
Nothing a little oil rubbed bronze spray paint couldn't fix.
I am happy to say the fixture is complete, and looks exactly like I hoped it would.
Stay tuned for the reveal in the next few days.
Hopefully I will be able to show you the improved fixture hanging in my dining room.
Hope you have had a wonderful day!

Not Anthropologie

This little fella is not from Anthropologie, but I thought it was delightful enough to pick up at a yard sale this weekend. It will be headed to my booth space soon.

Hope your day is as sunny as mine!

Garage Sale Update

I promised an update on Rachel's House Garage Sale and here it is. It was definitely a success!

At this point we were winding down. If you look at the pics from my previous post you can see just how much is gone.

One of my favorite purchases!

This clock was a steal @ 2.00!

and I could hardly resist this for Judah.

At the initial count we raised  $5,500 for Rachel's House. It was a lot of hard work but fun to be a part of this, and I can't think of any better reason to have a Garage Sale, to save a life.

One GREAT Garage Sale!!!!

I know I must stop taking such long breaks in between blogging. It has been a pretty busy summer, and it will be time for school to begin again. Here's one of the fun things that I have been up to. Our crisis pregnancy center is having it's annual Garage Sale fund raiser. I have been co-ordinating set-up in the children's area at our church. We were busy today, pricing, organizing, sorting and getting everything ready for the BIG sale on Saturday morning! Believe me, there is a TON of GOOD stuff here. Most in excellent condition!

Just a tiny bit of the home decor section. I should have remembered to take pictures at the end of the day. All of those tables are now filled, with no room left, and we brought in more tables at the end of the day. This was taken early this morning.

This gives you an idea of the number of tables that we originally set up.
Now these tables are pretty close to completely full. You are not able to see all of the hanging racks or furniture in the entry way. What is unbelievable is that we have another full day of accepting donations before the sale on Saturday.

Not only does this benefit a great cause, but it has been a lot of fun working with the wonderful men and women who are giving their time to support Rachel's House.  If I remember, I will take more photos tomorrow prior to the sale. Off to get some rest.

What's Up??

Last weekend was a busy one, sewing, sewing, sewing. Baby shower. Visiting with my girl, so I have been scarce around here. My baby is coming home this weekend, and we will be celebrating his 23rd birthday!
My how time flys! Enjoy those little ones while you can, they will be grown before you know it.
Thought I would share some favorite things these days.
The frame was a grandma gift at the shower last weekend, from a good friend.
Here's what it says:
GRANDMOTHER(gran muther) noun.
THE SOMEONE WHO...
1. HAS LOTS OF PATIENCE. 2. LOVES WITHOUT LIMITS. 3.IS THE PROUDEST PERSON ALIVE. A.K.A. GIGI, GRAM, GRAND, GRANDMA, GRANNY, MA-MA, MIMI, NANA, NANNY AND YIA-YIA.
As for the little Owl, Ansley is using owls in the nursery, but there was just one problem, there were NO owls in the nursery. While looking at handmade owls, I came across this little fella listed on Amazon, and he is too cute! We couldn't find anything that told us his size, but all the reviews said, bigger than expected, and he is. The perfect size for a toddler to snuggle with.
Slowly collecting some vintage sheets to sew with.

Found this HUGE bowl at one of the antiques stores here in town. It looks black in the picture, but is a rich, deep brown. Perfect for fall. Yes, and I am looking forward to the day when those red walls(that look pink) in the background are no more. SOON! Gotta run, I am off to help a friend price for an upcoming estate sale, and you never know what kind of treasure I might find.
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

Surprise Find

Thrifting has been slim picking around here lately, but I usually find something when I'm not really looking  Only one thing, but I had planned to purchase this new.

$1.99 at Goodwill!
Like new, and had the double insulated bottom.
And no, it wasn't this shiny when I purchased it.
My boy loves to fix hot tea, and I had sent the other teapot with him.
It's a lot more fun to boil your water in a kettle rather than a plain old boiler!
Have a blessed week!

Thrifty Glassware

Once again it is Thrifty Treasures over at Southern Hospitality. I have been trying to concentrate on projects around the house, so in that respect thrifting will probably slow down a bit here, not to mention that school starts back today! I will be substituting once again whenever I am called, and that can be a bit unpredictable. However I have found a few things, and one thing in particular that I forgot to show from a while back.

I have almost given up on our Goodwill. We have so many shop owners that frequent these places it is difficult to find things. I found these snack plates and cups , .99 for the plates, and .59 for the cups. I already had several in this same pattern, now I just need to have a get together and use these great plates.

A pumpkin jar to use in the fall. Just a quick tip. Know your thrift stores, and their pricing. Our Goodwill seems to be consistently high. I saw this same jar at GW priced at 4.99! I waited and it was still there at 1/2 price. Call me cheap, but I still couldn't bring myself to pay 2.50 for a seasonal item. I picked it up last week at our Salvation Army Thrift store for a mere .99!

I will be adding these little dessert glasses to my collection. I bought a box of these at an estate sale last year, and have been adding to them . I have picked these up for as little as .29 each and I think I paid .59 each for these. Looking forward to seeing all your wonderful thrifty finds for the week. Now,head on over and check Rhoda's and see all the great finds. Have a wonderful and blessed week! Jackie

More JUNK (oops, I mean Treasures)

Today is Thrifty Treasures over at Rhoda's Southern Hospitality. It was a better weekend for yard sales here than in a long time, still not the magnitude of what Rhoda can find. I was checking out one of her pictures of a sale, wishing I had the queen quilt set that was in the picture. I could see that it was queen size too.

Stella is ready to check out the treasures!
Glass dome .59, Butter dish .39, Oil & Vinegar Bottle .49, 8 clear glass plates 1.50 (waited until they were 1/2 price @ GW, Old Sewing Machine Drawer 1.00.

Old enamelware pan. I drove round about to find this. Needless to say I am not sure where map quest was taking me! This was supposed to be a HUGE sale, the ended up having about 2 card tables of stuff!

Little Handmade apron .50, Wilton Cookie sheet .75, Old Colander like my grandmother used to have .49. Remember I buy nostalgia.

3 Great books $1.00. Chuck Swindoll is one of my favorite authors so I can't wait to read this one! Hope you had a great weekend, and have a blessed week! Jackie

Road Trip and Random Things

This weekend we headed to North Georgia a 50th Wedding Anniversary Party. What a wonderful testimony, a life of 50 wonderful years together.

We had a wonderful time visiting with relatives that we don't get to see very often. They did a beautiful job of putting the reception together, a time that truly honored this sweet couple.

now imagine putting this girl,

this girl, and one little fellow together, and know what you have? Lots of activity non-stop until they get used to each other. I could not get a picture of the other little fellow because he couldn't be still long enough and I gave up. Stella, Chloe and Bailey all miniature schnauzers, and two of them are still puppies. My girl Stella has almost perfected the art of ignoring them both.

On to more random things. This picture is for Victoria.

This is a Vinca vine that is planted outside our side door, and is a great ground cover. Even better than ivy.

Last week when Susie did her post on drying hydrangeas, mine were perfectly ready, at least the few that I had, so I ran out and cut them to put in the bedroom that I have been working on. As Victoria put it, my yard thrift of the week. It was something I love, and didn't cost me a thing! How much more thrifty than that can you get? For more amazing thrifty finds check it out here.Have a wonderful week! Jackie

Instant Aging for Clothing

I am sharing a combination of things in today's post. Today is DIY day over at ASPTL, so I will be sharing how you can instantly age clothing, or any fabric . If it is new fabric you will first want to wash it. I have several old toddler dresses hanging
in my laundry room, and thought this little dress would make a great addition. The only problem is that it was very crisp and white, and I wanted it to look old and aged like the other little dresses. So here is what I did.

First I cut all of the store tags out.

Next I put it into a measuring cup filled with some coffee and a little salt. I once read that salt will set the coffee color.

Then you put it out to dry in the south Georgia sun,

and you will end up with this.

The old quilt was my thrift store purchase for today. I wanted an old quilt to put in my swing, that I would not worry about messing up. It is pretty worn and tattered, and I need to make some repairs but as I have said before, I often purchase nostalgia, not perfection.

Love the fabric on these two
squares.

This is the back.

You can go here to check out Thrifty Thursday. Have a wonderful evening.
