My Love of Color

Several months ago when we started our kitchen remodel, I looked forward to having a very neautral kitchen/breakfast room. I envisioned these colors being the look that I wanted. Very neutral, beachy, cottagy white, you get the picture.

It took me very little time to realize that I was going to miss color. I mean colorful color! My daughter is one that loves color too, and was not going to let me go into neutral.

When we saw this rug, I went from neutral to lots of COLOR!

I 've had this fabric for a long time, and had even decided not to use it, however I have changed my mind. I will be adding some simple cafe curtains over the kitchen sink.

My little red recipe book with my favorite recipes will stay out to add a hint of color

along with this cute little dishtowel that is hanging on the stove to add a few pops of color. Don't get me wrong. I love looking at a cottagy, white, beige, totally neutral room, they are beautiful, they just aren't for me. I am looking for some other ways to add color to this room. Artwork, etc?

So what are your thoughts on color, and what would you suggest to add just the right amount of color to my rooms? My room is pretty bare right now, especially the breakfast area. I hope to hop on those curtains pretty quick and show you what I come up with. For now, have a blessed day!

I am the same way Jackie. All of my house is earthy colors and I love it, but when I started putting my art room together I realized I needed some color to inspire me. Color makes me happy! Your kitchen looks great. Just add a little here and there. Visit my blog and you will see what I mean about color in my art room.

I am a color girl too.
The other has a purpose for those who like it but color makes me happy!
One can have too much color but like anything else moderation is the key.
Your kitchen looks great!

Forgot to tell you that I bought my colorful curtains at Pier 1 on sale. I wish I could sew!

Love it all, the rug, the fabric. As you know (by my one post on color), I have become a huge fan of color! Would love to see more kitchen pix!

I kind of feel the same way. I go back and forth though color always speaks to me. I think the colors of the 1990's and early 2000's (for me red walls in my great room/kitchen,etc.)overwhelmed me after all those years and when I started seeing all of the neutral everywhere, it was very desirable. The thing about neutral is that you can pop color or even take it away depending on moods for very little money. Maybe the best of both worlds.

Look forward to seeing your cafe curtains. The rug is a merry pop of color too. Not sure what your kitchen chairs are like, but if they have fabric seat bottoms, maybe a pop of color there would be nice. Maybe even a cherry red.

So funny because I started to say some of the same things Christina did! Are we sisters or what?

I love my neutral look now because I can add ANY color I want! I can change things out for all seasons without being stuck with a few colors.

I add colorful old books bought at thrift stores, towels, plates, bowls (think old fiesta ware or pottery). I have a pretty blue bowl that holds my fruits and veggies on the counters, always have some sort of centerpiece on the table, etc.

Love the pops of color you have shown and can't wait to see the cafe curtains!
