How did it get to THIS!

It should be a little embarrassing for me to make this disclosure! It is pretty bad. Uh, NO, it is REAL BAD!! But it is time to get real here. You are not looking at a random storage closet, but our master bedroom closet. We do not have the luxury of large walk in closets, and our closet has been a jumbled mess for quite some time. This is what happens when you start accumulating all of those great bargains that you love to find at thrift stores, etc, but you are not actually using them.

I have known for quite some time that this closet needs to be cleaned out. Simplifying is sounding really good to me.  There is nothing wrong with stuff, but when it begins to take over, and weigh you down, it is not a good thing! I have been looking around at my house, and feeling the need to do some major purging!

Just a few purses, fabric, and extra clothes.

In the next couple of days,  hopefully I will be showing you a major transformation. My sister and I are trying to preparefor a big yard sale some time in October or November, and I would like to have every closet in my house cleaned out so that there remains only useful items. I started looking for something this morning and have not been able to find it. Hopefully before the end of the day it will surface. Life is too short to be spending so much time and energy managing all of my stuff!!!!
How about you what is your perspective on stuff?
When it gets to be a burden, it is time to make some changes, and the time is NOW at this house!

Fortunately for you, you started well ahead of your sale time. You can do this!
Best wishes!

Just found your blog - best wishes with your closet project. I look forward to seeing your after photos.

I have found when you lose something - that is the time to create a lost list. This list can be made on a 3 x 5 card and hold the "lost" things that you are searching for. Most of us can have one or two and feel comforted that there are only a few items out of sight.

The Lost List is a great reminder of things lost. The Lost List becomes a cause for celebration when things are actually found and crossed off.

My side of our closet is not big enough to accomodate all my clothes, especially with all the scrubs I wear to work. SO, every summer and winter, I have to swap things from the attic to the closet. As I go through them, If I didn't wear it that season... out it goes! That helps me to keep that part of my life under control anyway. You were very brave to show pictures of your "crowded situation"! You will feel such a sense of accomplishment when it is all neat and tidy. Can't wait to see the pix!

I so hear you on this one! I started purging "stuff" earlier this summer and boy does it feel good everytime I make a trip to Goodwill!

My closets aren't so bad but the garage is another story altogether!

Best of luck with the yard sale...I never have great success with those - at least, not as the seller. But the purging and cleaning out makes it all worth it - I LOVE that part!

You are a brave lady for two reasons.
1. disclosing your closet to all of us.
2. tackling this project.

If you could see MY closet, you'd think we were sisters.
I admire you!

I have been sick in bed since last Sunday (still not well) and that has given me time to think. I realized that I need to attack my house and clean it up. It's not so much what you can see, but what you can't. Magazines overflowing in the master bedroom, many "organized" in baskets, craft supplies that I probably won't ever use, and stuff that I can't part with. Problem for me is that too many times, I've gotten rid of something only to find several months down the line that I need it. On our disability income, replacement isn't always an option. So a lot of prayer will have to accompany the purging, whenever I get well. We'll see how things go.

We moved this past June. I think my perspective might be different from others.

I've made a vow--to think twice before collecting any more stuff, and to throwing out stuff frequently rather than waiting for a move.

I love a makeover. Keep to it and post some pic's when done.

Unfortunately I can't tell you a great perspective on stuff as my closet looks way worse than yours---and I'm really not just saying that. Look forward to seeing what you do when you pare things down.

Love Oct. and Nov. yard sales. So much more energy without the heat.
