Just a little of what has been happening at our house. Not that I have mentioned it before, but we still have a townhouse for sale in Augusta, GA. Our son was in school there, and we purchased it when he went to school. Purchasing seemed like a good idea, and was actually cheaper than rent. The problem ~~was~~ is that we purchased in the height of the housing market, and well, we all know what it is like now. So needless to say, a year later we still have it for sale. We have had many lookers just no buyers. This is and old picture, but thought I would share with you. I would love it if you would be willing to pray for it to sell. We know God has a reason even if we don't know what that is.

Last night started the Beth Moore study on James: "Mercy Triumphs".This is very different from the previous studies, and challenges us to move beyond just the normal Bible study. There are 5 different levels that you can choose to participate at and level 5 being to memorize the entire book of James! We will have a project to participate in each week, so we can be not just "hearers of the word", but "doers" also. This weeks project is to "Feed the Poor". When we left we each were asked to take a paper grocery bag, and given a list of staple items to fill it with. There are probably at least 100 or more women combined in all of the sessions, so that will be a lot of bags of groceries. I hope to get a picture next week . What a great idea to incorporate w/ each study. We will not know what the next project will be, until the next week. Looking forward to sharing with you.

I am feeling a little under the weather, so that's all I have today. I am trying to be more consistent at posting, one of my goals this year. What's been happening at your house the beginning of this new year?

31 Days Abandoned? MIA

I am not sure what made me think that I could post for 31 days straight with no advance preparation. In order to maintain my sanity I had to release myself from this unrealistic expectation! With this said, I did complete some long awaited projects, and some new ventures along the way.

The trash can is finally painted and is no longer an eye-sore.

The french doors are trimmed and painted, and green tape removed!

YES, I AM SLOW!

In the mean time, part of the reason for abandoning this blog is, that we have started a new Women's Ministry at our church. I am a part of the leadership team and is requiring more of my time. Our

Kick- Off event was October 22.

We called it Mugs and Muffins. Each lady was asked to bring a mug that was exchanged randomly with another lady. You were then asked to pray for that person and connect with them. We are praying that this will be the beginning of our women better connecting and getting to know one another, as well as minister to each other. Here are a few pictures from that event.

I will be making every effort to post on a more regular basis. I will let you in on what projects that I am completing around here, as well as more on events with our Women's Ministry.

Getting It Done: Day 14 Finished Project!

This little bench has been waiting for a change. The finish was in perfect condition and the cushion just needed a little change.

I took a reproduction grain sack towel that I picked up at Target and it was the perfect size to recover it.

Here's a closer look. I love these towels. It is headed to my space later this morning.

Getting It Done: Day 13, A Box of Pumpkins

Today was my volunteer day at Rachel's House, our crisis pregnancy center. Along with being there today, I managed to finish this little box of pumpkins for my booth. All that I have taken so far have sold with the exception of 1, 'tis the season for pumpkins. I have ironed a few linens to take, and have a few items in my car that need to be tagged and taken before the weekend. For right now there won't be anymore shopping, just getting all the items that I have ready. Tomorrow I will be working all day, so my Getting It Done, will probably consist of getting our Dave Ramsey budget down on paper.

Getting It Done: Day 10, 11 and 12 Everyday Life Is Not Always A Blog Post

I am realizing that I was totally unprepared for 31 days of continual blogging. I should have been preparing mid September, hence the lag in blog posts. So with that said, here is a little catching up. My days are pretty ordinary, hence the title of this post. Some days of getting it done, I am realizing are just the mundane day in and out sort of things.

Here is the run down for the past several days.

Day 10:
Monday: Both bathrooms scrubbed, bed changed, laundry,laundry, and more laundry, time to prepare dinner before Dave Ramsey class at church.
Day 11: Tuesday:
Planning meeting@ church for our new Women's Ministry, haircut, errands, then time to prepare dinner.

Day 12: Wednesday

This is the status of what we call the green room in our house. This was once our garage that we closed in and the paint is much bolder than anything I had ever used, so we just started calling the green room. Right now it is the everything room. It is the ironing, clothes folding, paperwork sorting,computer, storage facility, etc., aka. THE DUMPING GROUND. There are several unfinished projects in here, that I need to finish for my booth, they require painting and it has been raining here everyday this week. I do not like to work on paint projects in this type of weather, especially since I don't have an outdoor location. Today I filed paperwork, moved a piece of furniture, finished painting 3 more sets of pumpkins, and went to church. Hopefully I will be showing you some finished items soon, and the after picture in this room. There you have it. I am not a project a day type girl, even though I would like to be. Just being real. Like I said I should have started working mid September and there might be some more exciting things to share by this time. I am still in hopes for much progress before the end of the month.

I would love to hear what all of you have been up to.

Getting It Done Day 9: Apple Butter Recipe

One thing completed today. Canned 6 small jars of homemade apple butter. Here is the recipe I promised.

All Day Crock Pot Apple Butter

5 1/2 lbs of Granny Smith Apples

4 Cups sugar

2 tsp Cinnamon

1/4 tsp ground cloves

1/4 tsp salt

Cook 9-11 hours in crock pot.

I cooked mine on high for about 45 minutes, then cooked on low all night. Mash apples w/ potato masher and cook a little longer to thicken.

Pour in sterilized jars. Clean jar rims. Put lids on and boil in water bath for 5 minutes.

This one is so easy since it cooks in the crock pot. Let me know if you give it a try.

31 Days of Getting It Done: Day 7 & 8, What I Have Been Up To

Playing a little catch up, but here are the pictures that I promised.

Friday, I went shopping to stock my little booth, and a little shopping Saturday morning too.

The pumpkins you see are ones that I have been busy making. All 26 of them!

This is the pumpkin season, and they have been selling very well.

Today my large farmhouse table and chairs sold, so I had to run and temporarily set up a small card table until I can get another table and chairs ready.

This has really kept me hopping, and if I am to continue I have got to become better at managing my time.

Tonight there is a crock pot full of apple butter that will be ready for canning.

31 Days of Getting It Done: Day 6, Tired of Busy

Today will be another no picture day!

I am determined to do this for 31 days, but right now I think I am running on empty.

I have too many irons in the fire, and taking some out is what I am hoping to accomplish in these 31 days.

I promise pictures tomorrow.

I will be working on my booth, and I promise to show pictures of what I have done to prepare for this fall weekend. There is a huge Barbecue Competition which will be a big event for the area and hopefully lots of shoppers at The Little Red Wagon.

Today we hauled more furniture to set up, and I am working on pumpkins to get ready for sale this weekend. I will have some pictures of those too.

31 Days of Getting It Done: Day 5, Catching Up

Today will have to be a no picture post. It has been one of those days. I have been up since 5:30, and the one thing I can tell you that I checked of my list was, to read my Bible and pray. Both important.

Here is how the day went:

Up at 5:30, Load of clothes in washer and dryer
Read Bible, pray, drink coffee
Vegetable soup in crock pot for dinner
Price some things to take to my booth at The Little Red Wagon (flea/antique market) I have a booth, went and started setting up my new booth
Flu shot
Straighten kitchen and too bad I didn't have a camera, or I could have been on America's Funniest Home Videos. Edgar decided to stick his head in the dishwasher to lick a dish and in the process, hung his collar on the rack. He panicked slinging the rack out of the dishwasher, while still attached to him, against the wall, breaking a plate. It happened so fast it was surreal! When he got loose I am not sure who was more a nervous wreck, me or him.

31 Days of Getting it Done!

     During the month of October I will be sharing 31 Days of Getting It Done. I hope to offer helpful hints, inspiring projects and a little bit of everything around the house.
     I have just finished reading Glynnis Whitwer's book, " I Used To Be So Organized". My reason for reading the book was simply this, I USED TO BE SO ORGANIZED! Recently I asked myself "So what happened?"
     I think I have figured out the answer and hope to offer encouragement and inspiration as I make an all out attempt to bring back the order that "once was".
     My first recommendation is: READ THE BOOK if you can. She askes us not only to examine habits, but to examine our hearts as well, and start there.
     Second, start with one small thing that you can accomplish in a day or less, so you can see progress and check it off the list!
Something easy to do today:CLEAR ALL THE PAPER CLUTTER. Sale flyers, old notes, junk mail, old magazines, etc. If you get as much junk mail as I do. It can pile up fast!
     I hpe you'll join me, and let me know how you are doing.

I know that my posts have been very sporadic and sparse. My life feels a little sporadic, and not
scheduled these days. With all that said, here is a little of what I have been up to.

We have been enjoying the cooler temperatures here. This morning it was a wonderful 57 degrees! We even have lots of leaves falling. Hints of fall for sure! A welcome relief after the scorching temperatures that we have had this summer!

We attended my best friend's, son's wedding out of town this weekend, and I was responsible for decorating for the rehearsal dinner. All of the decorating was done on a budget. Since I have a small supply of decor that I gladly lend, everything we used was either free, borrowed, or loaned to us, with the exception of the apples, and ribbons that were used to tie the napkins. One day I will have to put together a post on some of the budget ideas that I have used. The table runners are actually tablecloths that were folded to make runners Wal-Mart after fall clearance last year, $2.00 ea. I used them in February for a friend's, daughter wedding reception.

Last but not least, I got to spend time with this little one. Since he started walking, I can barely get him to be still long enough for a picture. The 50 cent thrift store outfit that I bought him a while back was pretty cute for his wedding outfit.

Garage Sale Update

I promised an update on Rachel's House Garage Sale and here it is. It was definitely a success!

At this point we were winding down. If you look at the pics from my previous post you can see just how much is gone.

At the initial count we raised $5,500 for Rachel's House. It was a lot of hard work but fun to be a part of this, and I can't think of any better reason to have a Garage Sale, to save a life.

One GREAT Garage Sale!!!!

I know I must stop taking such long breaks in between blogging. It has been a pretty busy summer, and it will be time for school to begin again. Here's one of the fun things that I have been up to. Our crisis pregnancy center is having it's annual Garage Sale fund raiser. I have been co-ordinating set-up in the children's area at our church. We were busy today, pricing, organizing, sorting and getting everything ready for the BIG sale on Saturday morning! Believe me, there is a TON of GOOD stuff here. Most in excellent condition!

Just a tiny bit of the home decor section. I should have remembered to take pictures at the end of the day. All of those tables are now filled, with no room left, and we brought in more tables at the end of the day. This was taken early this morning.

This gives you an idea of the number of tables that we originally set up.

Now these tables are pretty close to completely full. You are not able to see all of the hanging racks or furniture in the entry way. What is unbelievable is that we have another full day of accepting donations before the sale on Saturday.

Not only does this benefit a great cause, but it has been a lot of fun working with the wonderful men and women who are giving their time to support Rachel's House. If I remember, I will take more photos tomorrow prior to the sale. Off to get some rest.

My Love of Color

Several months ago when we started our kitchen remodel, I looked forward to having a very neautral kitchen/breakfast room. I envisioned these colors being the look that I wanted. Very neutral, beachy, cottagy white, you get the picture.

It took me very little time to realize that I was going to miss color. I mean colorful color! My daughter is one that loves color too, and was not going to let me go into neutral.

When we saw this rug, I went from neutral to lots of COLOR!

I 've had this fabric for a long time, and had even decided not to use it, however I have changed my mind. I will be adding some simple cafe curtains over the kitchen sink.

My little red recipe book with my favorite recipes will stay out to add a hint of color

along with this cute little dishtowel that is hanging on the stove to add a few pops of color. Don't get me wrong. I love looking at a cottagy, white, beige, totally neutral room, they are beautiful, they just aren't for me. I am looking for some other ways to add color to this room. Artwork, etc?

So what are your thoughts on color, and what would you suggest to add just the right amount of color to my rooms? My room is pretty bare right now, especially the breakfast area. I hope to hop on those curtains pretty quick and show you what I come up with. For now, have a blessed day!

It's Been a Long Time!

Wow!! I have been away for a while! and I am not sure if there will be anyone out there to read. I have really needed some time away to refresh and think about exactly what it is that I want to do with this blog. I want the things that I share here to be helpful and encouraging and sometimes just fun, to those who are reading. We will start back with a little fun. I will give you a little hint about what I was up to last week.

If you guessed we were vacationing at the beach you are right! I am missing those ocean breezes already, as we endure 100 degree temps here in south GA! We had a great time, and eventually Judah decided that he likes the beach too. He wasn't too sure at first, but my husband and I love spending time at the beach, so we figure we had to get him started early. Next year it should be a little easier, when he has figured out that the sand is not there to eat.

I have some new posts planned that I hope will be helpful, practical, and sometimes like I said, just plain fun! I will be also trying to get together a little summer giveaway, so I hope you will hang in there with me. What about you? What has everyone been up to lately?

New Hobby

For quite some time I have wanted to learn to crochet, so when the opportunity to take a class at our local technical college came up, I gave it a try. The teacher just happened to be my sunday school teacher, so I have access to her help outside of class. My goal was to learn enough to make some pretty dishcloths, and I am excited to say that I learned just that, and a little more.

The bag I started using for my supplies, became the color inspirations for this granny square afghan that I am working on.

It is not perfect for the first try, and I saw my mistake a little further down the road, than where I wanted to go back and pull everything out, but improvement will come with practice.

Another added bonus is that in the few classes I have had, I was able to teach my daughter to crochet during my last visit to her house, and she has been going at it, trying new patterns, and even tackled making some little flowers. I can't wait to see all that she has done. How about you, what new things have you learned lately?

The sky is falling?

No, the sky was not falling. While I was outside painting this morning I heard a loud thump,thinking that it was probably a dead limb falling from this huge oak tree in our back yard.

Much to my surprise, it was this!!!

It had fallen out of the tree, right next toEdgar(our dog)!

This is the snake stretched out across the limb after he had climbed back up into the tree.

We are guessing that he was at least 6 feet long!

I know you must be thinking, why is he not dead?

I was asking my sweet husband the same thing, to which he replied that it was a good snake and he just didn't have the heart to get rid of him. The idea of that dropping out of the tree next to me is not a pleasant thought at all. He has promised if he drops in again, he will have to go. Check out how calm the bird is! That was my excitement for the day, how about you?

Pitfalls of Perfectionism and other Random Ramblings

I finally decided that it was time to post once again. I have not quit blogging, not to say I didn't think about it. I am not sure there is anyone out there still reading. I guess there hasn't been anything to read, now has there?

Well now we have this!

I wish I could report to you that all is finished, and all is well, but alas, it is not. The counter top has been wrong twice, and just when I thought we were past counter top issues, there is a spot on one side where the laminate is separating. It has been a slow process, especially when I have done most of the painting on the existing cabinets

Here's where pitfalls of perfectionism come in.

My eye seems to be drawn to every imperfection, and I have had to decide what I can let go of, and what has to be fixed.

There were some paint issues on the doors. Corrections made. They are not perfect, but I still love the way it looks.

When you are paying someone, I guess my standard may be too high?

The bead board is great, however the installation...not exactly what I was hoping for. But it is getting there. A little more caulking, and touch up. It is looking like a totally different kitchen.

Beginning a major project during the holidays is difficult, however, this was the best time for us.

I even celebrated the big 50 while I was away!

My husband brought me my favorite cake, and we celebrated quietly, just the way I like it.

Other things that have been going on:

I helped give a couples shower/dinner for a friend that got married last weekend.
Last weekend spent helping prepare for the wedding reception. I was the coordinator, of the food that is.
My son is home until his next move to Seminary in the fall, at least that is the plan. It has been a joy to be able to spend more time with him.
I am reading through the Bible with our church. It has been a blessing. I have never read through the complete Bible. I am learning a lot, mostly God is speaking to me about many things.
I am learning to crochet. That has been fun!
My cute grandson (and his Mama) have been to visit several times during all the mess.
My parents are coming Friday, so I am trying to do some intensive cleaning!

I warned you that this would be random. On another note, I am wanting to change things up a bit here. Not sure yet, exactly what that means, but I know I do want my writing to be meaningful and encouraging to others.

For now I will close, and promise not to be so long in posting again.

You Get The Idea!

Well these days, I am feeling like this is the project that never ends.....

I thought I would give you a little peek at what I have been up to today. The cabinet man did come and hang the doors, all but a few that is.

Here's a look at the drawers. Pleas pardon the dirty floors and all of the sawdust.

Here's a look into the laundry room, with the bead board wallpaper.

Now, here's what I need to know.

How picky is too picky?

There are a couple of doors that got dinged and he is taking them back to re-paint, but I have a couple of doors that the finish has some dimples in. The doors were sprayed with and oil base, and then spray lacquer over the top. I am not familiar with this process, so my question is, am I just being too picky?

If it was not noticeable I would be OK, but it is a little too noticeable, at least I think it is.

I think I told you before, the counter-top order got lost, but should be here next week.

Light fixtures have been ordered, and they should be here next week.

Couldn't get a hold of the counter-top guy.

One door was completely the wrong size, and I gauged the paper behind the washer, when I was touching up some things. Thank goodness it is behind the washer.

I know I am going to thoroughly enjoy the new kitchen, but I am ready to be functioning normally once again, and for my house to be CLEAN!

Still here, and time for a Happy Dance!!!

Yes, I am still here. Things have just been busy here, with holidays, the flu, visits, and still working in the kitchen!

One day I will have some after pictures to show you!

It is coming along, but slowly, and having my house in one giant upheaval of a mess is starting to get to me. The doors are ready to be installed, now it is just up to me, to finish painting the frames. I want them to be just a little too perfect, so that slows me down. Today I found out that the shop making my counter tops lost the order. We ordered from a local building supply, I had not heard from them and thinking just maybe I should check on them, I called (thankfully) to find out that the counter top shop did not have the order on record. They have put a rush on it, so they should still be ready in time for this slow girl.

Visited this little fellow during Christmas, and my how he is growing!

Now here is the reason I was doing a happy dance today. My boy is officially a college graduate!!!! Long story short, in order to get credit for a class he had taken, he had to pass 2 different tests. This was a requirement since he had taken the classes at another college, and they were not in the state university system. What he did not realize was, that if he did not pass the test, he would have to repeat the classes! Something that everyone failed to mention. The pressure was on! He also got the flu before Christmas, and felt bad until Christmas eve, so needless to say there was not much test preparation going on. He put in a lot of hours studying, and this Mama was praying.

I knew the test started around 9 this morning, and he called around 10 to say he had passed the test, and would be getting that diploma in the next week!!!! We are so proud of him!

In other news, I am getting close to post number 300! So I am thinking we may have to do a little giveaway, so spread the word. Not sure what it will be, but I will try to make it a good one. What would you like to win? Let me hear from you, and in the mean time I will be thinking on it.

Edgar has arrived!

We picked up Edger Tuesday, and he is making himself right at home. Stella is still trying to figure out why he is here, she has been the top dog since Nick died this summer, so she has been a little bit ornery on occasion, but they seem to be adjusting well. Edgar is a mixed breed with some spaniel and retriever. He seems to be very loving and gentle. He has been a little homesick but hopefully he will come to know this as home.

How could you resist this face?

In other news the kitchen is coming along, still slowly. I painted the first coat of paint on the outside of the cabinets and it will take a little longer to dry. It has been a topsy turvy mess here, and I am ready for things to be in order once again. I have been reading this and I am ready for some simplicity around here.

Organized Simplicity by Tsh Oxenreider is worth reading. Her approach to simple living is realistic for everyone. After cleaning out my kitchen for the work that needed to be done, it became very obvious to me that it was time for a little simplicity. We had the huge yard sale about two months ago, but it is time to go a little deeper. She addresses the energy and time that it take to care for all of the accumulated stuff, and determining whether or not it is worth it. I encourage you to get a copy, especially if you are sensing the need for more simple living.

Oops! Tendinitis and Edgar

Here are some totally random updates for the day. First is the BIG Oops! Yesterday, while waiting on the inside of the cabinets to dry before the second coat, I decided to trim out the breakfast area. My sweet guy hates to trim, but doesn't mind the painting. I am the opposite, so this works great for us. I am not sure what I was thinking when I let the lady at the Benjamin Moore store talk me into this one. My very first reaction was, OH NO!

It is VERY dark! Actually it is even darker than what it looks like here, and especially at night. I am trying to soften things up a bit, and Wilmington Tan is not going to do it. I am looking for a soft neutral to go with the white cabinets and black granite looking counter tops. Any suggestions for the perfect color? I have a Sherwin Williams color deck, but may make a trip back to the Ben Moore store to see if they can do something with the gallon that I already have, but would love any of your suggestions.

While in the process of painting, (a lot of painting) I have developed what my Mom thinks is most likely tendinitis in my left hand. So not only has this been a lengthy process, but a little bit painful too.

I told you this would be some random rambling. So by now you are wondering who is Edgar? Edgar would be the dog that my son would like to bring home for Christmas. Edgar's family doesn't like him very much. He is one of about two or three other pets, so they have decided that Edgar must go. My son has taken a liking to Edgar, and thinks we could give him the perfect home. I have no idea what kind of dog Edgar is, other than my son says he looks like a larger version of Stella. Stella has been pretty lonesome since Nick died this summer, and Chloe went home at Thanksgiving, so perhaps there will be an update on Edgar soon.

Remember girls, I need some suggestions on that perfect paint color. I pray everyone is having a blessed Christmas season.

Snow?????

It snowed today, here in my little bit of the South!

The snowflakes were swirling, and for just a moment we had our own little winter wonderland.

It's cold outside and just right for this.

Both of these are earlier this year.

Pardon my excitement, but just remember how rare it is that we see snow here. It just occurred to me that we have had it twice this year! That is unusual!

The Way We Were

Here we were just a few short days ago.

And here is a little comparison of where we are today.

Here is what I have discovered in this process.

Progress seems slow, but we are getting there.

It is hard being a perfectionist and remodeling.

When you have a huge project going on, a little more seems to be added to the pile. We have a car that died, my son called to say his heat is not working correctly (in the 20's here in the deep south).

For the first time in a long time I am longing for a few Christmas decorations, and there won't be any this year. (another story for another time)

This is what I have to brighten the kitchen right now.

I would love to think we could have this pulled together for Christmas, but my sweet husband is on night shift for the next couple of days. He has already painted the ceiling, so today I hope to trim out the remainder with primer,and trim the walls so he will be ready to prime over the red, and then paint. I then have to actually paint the cabinets. The counter tops should be here next week some time so I need to keep rolling.

Oh, and I forgot to add that even though we are keeping it very simple this year, I have purchased only ONE gift!

Bet you can't guess who that is for. Hopefully I will be able to remedy that tomorrow. After Dr appts. I hope to do a little shopping!

Any more project advice for me? I am needing to purchase a new fixture for the kitchen are and over the sink. We have removed the long florescent light. I would like some sort of pendant light over the sink, and the ceiling fan is coming down (over the table) I am open for ideas if you all have any suggestions. ............Not Christmas!

This is what my kitchen looks like at the moment, and since you see empty cabinets, that leaves you to imagine where everything is. My dining room holds most of it, and I am wondering how I have accumulated so much stuff! After we finally got everything moved out of here, I told my husband that I am feeling the urge to purge a lot of things again. As a matter of fact, I started another yard sale box today. I am looking forward to the opportunity to think through what will stay, and what will go.

Here is a little peek at how the laundry room is shaping up.

I am liking this bead board wallpaper that my husband hung behind the washer and dryer! This is my roll that I got for 1 cent at Home Depot this summer. Yes, you read that right 1 cent!

I know this is a terrible picture, but I am excited about my new light fixture! And, yes, I realize that my ceilings are not what is hot right now, but there are just some things that I can live with, and this is one of them. My preference would be nice smooth ceilings, but I am afraid that would send my sweet husband over the edge.

Now a question for all of you that have hung bead board wallpaper.

I am planning to paint it. Is there anything special that I should know before putting the paint on? I sure do not want it falling off the walls when I apply the paint. My husband hung it with glue because that is the only way he hangs it. Do I prime before painting? Let me hear all of your advice.

I know I probably sound like scrooge, but I will probably be doing very little Christmas decorating this year. We will be going to my daughter's house for Christmas, so she said we could come enjoy her decorations. Right now, we are just trying to maintain some sense of order here. It just worked out to where now is when we have the most time to concentrate on getting this done. New countertops have been ordered, doors are ready to be sprayed by the cabinet man, so I have to get all of the boxings painted to be ready for the doors. Let me tell you one thing I have learned. It is hard being a perfectionist and remodeling at the same time.

Here's my question for you. Any large projects in the near future, and what advice would you have for me as we work at updating and changing a few things around here?

Thankful List

Today, I am feeling a little bit of this, and a little bit of that. If you have never experienced it, it is hard to explain. With the excitement of the holidays, the hustle and bustle and busyness that comes with it, I often struggle. A cloud sort of descends on me this time of year. I don't know why, but it has been an unwelcome guest many, many times. In order to not give in, me and the Lord are moving on through this. Today I will choose to focus on the abundance of blessings that I have. The enemy will not get this girl! So here goes!

Thankful thoughts for today:
1. It's looking like rain! We need it badly.
2. My daughter, husband and Judah are on their way to see MiMi. This means lots of hugs and kisses are on the way!

3. My boy will be on his way, soon I hope.

4. My Mom and Dad will be joining us for Thanksgiving tomorrow.

5. The remodel process has begun. It is slow go, but I know I am going to love it.

6. A good smelling candle that crackles like a fire.

7. God's Word and His saving grace.

8. A quiet morning to pray and listen.

9. A warm cup of coffee.

10. Beautiful fall colors everywhere!

Today's post will be a little bit of this and that. Along with pictures of a couple of things that I am thankful for

today.

Here is a shot, pre-yard sale that we had the first weekend of November. It was hard to get a good shot of all the stuff, and believe me there was a lot!! Yes, it was dark and we had a customer at 6:30 who wanted everything for a quarter! It was the coldest Saturday so far this fall, so we froze, but we got rid of a bunch of stuff for which I am very thankful, and took the rest to the Salvation Army Thrift Store when we were done. I stuck with it, and it didn't go back in the house. Believe it or not as we paint and re-do a few things I will continue to clean things out, for another sale.

We were finally able to get started on the laundry room. ~~Now if I can just find someone to spray the cabinet~~ ~~doors for me~~. The cabinet man called as I was preparing the post, and the price is reasonable so we will be getting the doors to him this week. Yet another thing that I am thankful for!It looks very different now, but not quite ready for an after shot. This is what we have done so far:

Still waiting for new counter top and sink, cabinet doors need to be primed and painted, new door to arrive and paint, window trim to be painted. It is slow go. I don't know how so many seems to get things done so fast! I am just slow I guess.

It rained today!!!! It has been very dry here, and we have needed rain . Even these birds were enjoying the shower. Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so what have you been thankful for this week?

Thankful Thursday

Here I am catching up with all of those things I planned to share each day during the month of November.
It has been an eye-opener to see that my attitude of gratitude could change so quickly to, one of frustration and aggravation. Little circumstances that are not what I wanted them to be! I got so frustrated over them! I started having problems loading pictures to blogger and I am told that it is a problem with my camera and conflicting software. Why all of a sudden, I do not know.

I am now making an adjustment, and for lack of time I may have a few posts without pictures. I am realizing that I cannot become so wrapped up in this blog that it causes me frustration. I do not want to allow the little things that frustrate me overshadow the many, many blessing that I have, so here goes.

My Husband- He is the best! There are days I don't know how he puts up with me, but he loves me and shows me daily. I am blessed more than I deserve.

My Family- I have an adorable new grandson who is a total joy, wonderful daughter, son-in-law, and son. I am so blessed that they all know the Lord, and desire to live for Him.

My Home- My home is nothing fancy, but then again, I am not a fancy girl, but God has blessed me with all that I need, plus so much more.

A Successful Yard Sale- We sold a ton of stuff, the weather was the coldest it had been, we froze, but many, many people came to buy all of our excess stuff.

My Sunday School Class- I have recently joined a ladies class at our church after being in other areas of ministry. We have a wonderful teacher who is knowledgeable, prepared and loves to teach. We have such a variety of ladies I have been blessed to be a part.

Answered Prayer- Several weeks ago I had something that I gave to the Lord. Only He would be able to do what needed to be done. He answered immediately. Does He always work this way? No, but this time his answer was immediate.

Friendships- I am blessed with some wonderful friends who love me, in spite of me, and for that I am so very thankful.

I have so many, many things to be thankful for and couldn't waste the opportunity to share. How about you, what are you reminded of to be thankful for today?

Thirty Days of Thanksgiving-Day 3, Roadside Finds

Yes, I am thankful for a few roadside finds!

I spotted these on the way home from picking up my car.

To the untrained eye, this might look like a pile of dead plants that have been pulled up, but you see, I know better. These flowers will provide many more blooms in the seasons to come, and I have the perfect empty flower bed for them. I purchased some similar mums a little earlier in the season to give as a gift, and the cost was around $10.00. At 10.00 a pot, this is $100 worth of plants. Even at 5.00 a plant, that's $50.00. Do you see what I mean. I am so thankful for the little things that put a smile on my face.

Thirty Days of Thanksgiving- 2 Days in One!

October has gone by so quickly, so quickly in fact that I did not get my first post in for the month of November!
Since I wanted to do a series on Thirty Days of Thanksgiving, today will be a two in one day. Just a little catch up here.
Life often gets so busy, that I myself forget that I need to practice an attitude of Thanksgiving and gratitude every day.I do not want to get so caught up in the worries and cares of each day, that I forget to be thankful for all that God has blessed me with, and it is much. I will spend the next 28 days sharing some of these things with you.

Today, I am thankful for the opportunity to vote.
My sweet boy came home last night just to vote. I am thankful that he sees this as a privilege and responsibility. So we will be off to vote in just a few minutes.

Second, I am thankful that I will be able to pick up my car today.
I know to some that may sound ridiculous, but I have been reminded over the last week, how I take for granted just being able to hop in the car, and take care of whatever I need to. We have been having some maintenance issues taken care of(you'll have those on old vehicles), so I have had to make other arrangements for transportation, errands, etc.

That's just the thing, we don't know what tomorrow holds. I have been vividly reminded of this truth this

week.

-Sunday we visited a friend, whose wife didn't wake up from surgery. What was supposed to be a 3 day hospital stay after surgery, has turned into 7 months, with set backs and small bits of improvement. Where is his hope?

He is very clear, his hope is in the Lord.

-My daughter and sweet Judah visited unexpectedly Sunday evening. Her UC has flared up again with infection. She needed some help and Mom encouragement. She has battled with this for 10 years. Where is my hope for her?

It is in the Lord, our sustainer and Great Physician.

-I found out my Dad has been diagnosed with something called myodisplasia , a blood disease causing chronic anemia.

Our hope is still in the Lord.

-Wednesday morning my Sunday school teacher's husband was attacked and shot during an armed robbery attempt at the bank he manages. He received a head injury, shoulder injury and gun shot wounds in each leg. Thankfully these injuries were not life threatening and he is recovering. The suspect has not been caught. Where is their hope?

It is in the Lord, the God of all comfort and peace.

Today I am grateful for my Lord and Saviour. Everything I face will be sifted through His loving hands. He is the one I can trust." He causes all things to work together for good to those who love God."

RADICAL

I've just finished reading this.

This was not just another "christian " book, with information that we have heard before. Actually we have heard this before, in the Bible.

Here is an excerpt from the book:

"The reality is, we need community in order to follow Christ radically. I am convinced that one reason may of us have not taken radical steps in our giving, for example, may not be so much because we love our possessions as it is because we fear isolation.

If the radical, simple living we see Jesus talking about were more common in the church, it would be much easier for us to live simply as well.

But we look around, and everyone else has nice cars, nice homes, and lifestyles characterized by luxuries, so we accept that this must be the norm for Christians.

We may get convicted about our way of living when we look at the Bible, but when we look at one another, we assume it must be okay because everyone else lives this way." pgs. 205-206 Radical

This statement rung true for me. Radical lays out challenges that may not be comfortable. It will challenge you to think differently from what we have accepted as norms among the christian community. In short, it will challenge you, to live a lifestyle for the glory of God, radical living by today's christian standards.

Grandmother's Things

A few weeks ago my Mom called to see if I would like anything from my great grandmother's house. Relatives that were living in the house would be moving, and having to clear some things out. It was so odd, how I could remember certain things and where they were located, actually thinking that they were probably no longer there.

This sideboard was always in the large entry way of way of her house. We used to go over the day before Christmas eve, her birthday, to celebrate with a huge dinner with all of the family. All o fthe kids used to take off our shoes and skate in the hallway on her hardwood floors, where this piece sat. It was still there.

This dresser was in her bedroom, and since Ansley was needing a dresser for Judah's room, I asked for it if it was still there. It was still in Grandmother's room.

There was this little old wooden high chair that was hidden away in the attic. My mother mentioned it, and I thought it would be the perfect high chair when Judah visits.

Paint or Stain? What do you think?

Fall

I have said so many times before, that FALL is my favorite time of year! Right now I am wishing for those cooler fall days. We had a little tease a couple of weeks ago, and now the AC is running again! Along with fall comes the opportunity to bring out a few decorations. We are not into Halloween at all, so I prefer all of my decor to remain simple and natural. I picked up this old fashioned pumpkin this afternoon. I have another for the kitchen table (as soon as I get it cleaned off. I have a few artificial pumpkins, and I may or may not pull these out. Right now I am just into plain and simple.

A Little Blue

We are feeling a little blue around here. This sweet girl is missing her Mama and baby once again. She hasn't had a chance to really figure out all of this baby stuff. I am keeping her until her Mama, can tend to her and baby.

This sweet boy and his Mama were here for several days, and my boy came to see his little nephew for the first time. They were all here, and left yesterday, so it's just me and the girls . It gets really quiet when everybody leaves, so I will be trying to make some progress with the closet, and getting ready to do some painting around here. Have a blessed week.

Thrifting with Purpose

Is the great "deal" you find this week always a great deal?

As I embrace the idea of "less is more" the answer to this question, for me, is "NO
Here are a few examples:

Solid oak drop leaf table. Great for the right space!

Problem: I don't have the right space.

Lots of cute clothes!

Problem: I am not wearing them.

Shoes and purses

I only pay full price for running shoes, and it doesn't take long to accumulate cute shoes!
Too Many!!!

Problem: Not enough shelf space, and I am not wearing many of these either.

Lets face it, we all have our favorites!

From here on out, I will be "thrifting with purpose". I don't know where or how I am going to use it, I don't need to bring it home, no matter how great the "deal" is. The "great deals" have become burdens when they are simply taking up space, time, and energy to maintain.

I'd like to hear your thoughts about your "stuff". Do you have any habits like mine that need to change?

Is anyone else having problem with loading pictures in the new editor on blogger. I have not been able to load anything directly from my camera for over a week! It is getting rather aggravating. Am I the only one?

Less Is More!

First of all let me thank all of you who have been praying for Ansley. She has gotten more rest. Judah now seems to have a touch of colic or not adjusting well to the formula. They are just working and loving through the fussy spells. I have been of little help since I was fortunate not to have that with either of my babies. Again he is the cutest little thing ever, and by the way I did go back and get lots of sweet time with the little one.

Now on to the topic at hand. A common theme that seems to be coming up lately is, "Less Is More". If I want to be real honest, I need to admit that I have just accumulated too much STUFF!

The question I have asked myself is, WHY?

Can I learn to be content with what I have as opposed to looking at what others have, and wanting what they've got? Seeing a new trend and going for it, always something a little prettier, or so we think. The fact is there will always be newer, bigger, better, prettier, etc. to see. Yes, my house is long overdue for some updates, and we are beginning to tackle this.

I am beginning to take a closer look at some habits(of mine) that need to be addressed. Don't get me wrong, I love some thrifty shopping, and good junk, but the accumulation is beginning to weigh me down! My STUFF seems to be managing me, rather than the other way around.

My recent closet clean up came to a halt when the stomach virus hit, then Judah decided to make his arrival a bit earlier than expected(what a joy!),and I subbed today, so it is still unfinished. However, tomorrow, I will be back at it, clearing the clutter! Getting rid of STUFF!

So how would you answer the following questions:

How much is enough?

Are my belongings a burden or a blessing?

How much time should I spend managing what I own?

I will be sharing some of my answer to these questions in upcoming posts, and show you the progress that I am making.

I am not in any way prejudiced, but he is absolutely the most adorable little thing!

It was sure hard to make the trip home today without him. I am already missing him so much! 3 hours is a long way when you are a grandmother!

Update and Tying one on!

Progress on the closet/bedroom clean-up came to a screeching halt Friday, when, I got the stomach virus. As much as I tried, and wanted to I slept, except for the periods of time while I was otherwise occupied. I hope to have an update and some pictures possibly by Tuesday.

Just as soon as I was able, here's a little project that I needed to complete.

Shower invitations for a couples shower that I am helping host.

So easy to make, and a fraction of the cost of custom invitations. With the exception of the bandanna fabric and envelopes, I had everything to make the invitations. Total out of pocket cost for the items that I did not already have was $7.05. In my effort to clean out, I am also trying to use what I have on hand, as opposed to buying more. Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

How did it get to THIS!

It should be a little embarrassing for me to make this disclosure! It is ~~pretty bad~~. Uh, NO, it is REAL BAD!! But it is time to get real here. You are not looking at a random storage closet, but our master bedroom closet. We do not have the luxury of large walk in closets, and our closet has been a jumbled mess for quite some time. This is what happens when you start accumulating all of those great bargains that you love to find at thrift stores, etc, but you are not actually using them.

I have known for quite some time that this closet needs to be cleaned out. Simplifying is sounding really good to me. There is nothing wrong with stuff, but when it begins to take over, and weigh you down, it is not a good thing! I have been looking around at my house, and feeling the need to do some major purging!

Just a few purses, fabric, and extra clothes.

In the next couple of days, hopefully I will be showing you a major transformation. My sister and I are trying to preparefor a big yard sale some time in October or November, and I would like to have every closet in my house cleaned out so that there remains only useful items. I started looking for something this morning and have not been able to find it. Hopefully before the end of the day it will surface. Life is too short to be spending so much time and energy managing all of my stuff!!!!

Last weekend was a busy one, sewing, sewing, sewing. Baby shower. Visiting with my girl, so I have been scarce around here. My baby is coming home this weekend, and we will be celebrating his 23rd birthday!
My how time flys! Enjoy those little ones while you can, they will be grown before you know it.

As for the little Owl, Ansley is using owls in the nursery, but there was just one problem, there were NO owls in the nursery. While looking at handmade owls, I came across this little fella listed on Amazon, and he is too cute! We couldn't find anything that told us his size, but all the reviews said, bigger than expected, and he is. The perfect size for a toddler to snuggle with.

Slowly collecting some vintage sheets to sew with.

Found this HUGE bowl at one of the antiques stores here in town. It looks black in the picture, but is a rich, deep brown. Perfect for fall. Yes, and I am looking forward to the day when those red walls(that look pink) in the background are no more. SOON! Gotta run, I am off to help a friend price for an upcoming estate sale, and you never know what kind of treasure I might find.

My girl was home this weekend for another shower. Here she is with 26 days until her due date. We had so much fun!Three of our friend hosted a drop in shower for friends from church. All I can say is,

She was Blessed!

Pretty table, beautiful flowers, and some delicious food! The hostesses really outdid themselves. After these couple of pictures, I just forgot about the camera. We had so much fun visiting with friends and church family. Needless to say, with the blessings of friends and relatives, they are ready for this little fella to come. We had some marathon sewing going on this weekend, and I finished the bumper pads, even after sewing the needle through my finger. Ouch! She is picking up a few last minute necessities when she visits the doctor on Tuesday. She seems to think he might be early, and she had me a little nervous this weekend. She says she needs one more week of nesting to have everything spic and span for the baby. She has been in a major nesting mode for quite some time, so it makes me wonder if he will be early.

His due date is September 24th for those who have asked.

God has truly shown his faithfulness throughout this pregnancy. Her health has been good, and God has already provided all they have needed. This has been one more opportunity to trust God when circumstances are not what we thought they would be.

God is good and He has blessed abundantly!

Showers of blessing!

Yesterday we were able to make a surprise visit to our girl. We arrived just in time for one of her baby showers. They have been so blessed by friends and family. Thought you might enjoy some highlights .

I have not mentioned his name yet, but we are ready to welcome Baby Judah!

One of the hostesses printed these cute thank-you notes, and had all of those in attendance to address an

envelope. I want to be sure to remember this the next time I help with a shower.

I guess by now you realize she will be having an owl or two in the nursery.

Yes, I did complete the crib skirt, and hopefully we will have bumper pads by this weekend.

This cute block was painted an assortment of blues, pinks, greens etc. before she changed the colors to match the nursery. The lid opens up, and can be used for storage.

She will be here next weekend for another shower, so I will be sewing until......... well until I finish those bumper pads.

And no, I did not get one picture of the mom to be! When they started taking pictures, I was not able to get to my camera. I will try to do better next weekend.

Ansley had another baby shower this weekend, and she sent me a picture of the cake.
She is using owls in the nursery, so they had this cute owl cake at the shower. They have been so blessed by family and friends. She will be here in a couple of weeks for a shower, and I am looking forward to sharing the excitement with her. I am still working on the dust ruffle for the bed, and will start the bumper pads this week. Hopefully we will have a finished product soon. Have a great week!

Good News and BAD News!

Remember how I have been waiting, saving, and planning to update my kitchen on a budget?

Well, the good news is that I have lots of beautiful doors, and drawer fronts waiting on paint so that we can get on with the kitchen remodel project,

however,

there seems to be a slight problem.

Since there are a lot of these, I am HOPING,

that

just a

SliGhT

PrObLeM.

NONE

of the doors or drawers

are the correct size!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is a fixable problem, but right now, I am feeling a ~~little~~

LOT

sick!

There's more to the problem though.

You know when Big favors don't turn out so well?

This is one of them!

A wonderful friend did us this favor, got the doors at a good price,

but still costly.

Somehow, there was some miscommunication, even when our previous estimate was for the actual sizes.

My daughter is assuring me that it is OK, and Will work.

Total Yummy Goodness!!

Just finished making this delicious dessert to take to a birthday celebration this afternoon, and thought I would share this quick and easy recipe with you .

Brownie Trifle

1 Box Brownie Mix (your favorite)

Large Box Instant Chocolate Pudding

8 oz. Cream Cheese

Large Container Cool Whip

*Make brownies according to directions. Cool, and cut into small chunks for bottom layer

*Soften cream cheese, add 2 TBS sugar, and half of cool whip. This goes on top of brownie layer.

*Mix pudding according to directions, and this is your next layer.

*Top with remaining cool whip

*Refrigerate until ready to serve.

We made mini versions of these in martini glasses for my daughters wedding, and they were a big hit.

Morning Coffee

Our little row of grapevines are out here,

a few pretty flowers,

and this morning the nest was empty.

Several years ago we covered our small back patio with a tin roof. Our goal is to make our rather large back yard beautiful without spending a lot of money, and little by little it is happening. I have taken cuttings from neighbors plants and bought some on clearance. When the weather is a little cooler we will begin working on some vegetable beds.Some mornings you can even catch a breeze on the back porch here in south Georgia. It's simple, but I'm loving it.

My back porch was beginning to look like plants were just sitting everywhere, and this little shelf that was tucked away in the storage building was just what I needed. Hopefully I will be tending to more projects this week.

My Own Three Ring Circus!!

This weekend my Mom and Dad were here, with their dog, Bailey(center)

My daughter and son-in-law were here with Chloe(left)

and there's Stella trying to stay out of the way.

Needless to say they kept things hopping.

In the midst of family being here, we made a cake for a couple's reception at church.

Ansley decorated, I baked. Cake decorating is not a good thing for a perfectionist to attempt.

I tend to analyze things a little bit too long. My daughter on the other hand is not afraid to just go for it.

This past week has been a busy one. Good busy, but very busy, tiring, and draining. We left last Sunday to visit my daughter. They purchased an older home that they have been renovating for quite a while. We went down to lend a hand. They are down to what is one huge task(not counting the yard) painting the exterior(not including the windows that will need to be reglazed). Those of you who own an older home know what a job this will be, especially on your own. I will say the boys worked on the really hard stuff! They scraped, scraped, scraped and scraped some more! It was HOT! Really hot!

My girl is still working, so I painted the last of the trim and baseboards in the office, cleaned windows (did I mention they have a lot of Big windows?) When we left the office was on the way to being straightened out, so the guest bed can move in there, so we can get ready for this little one. I even got to see the little one Wednesday during her Dr visit. He was moving those arms and legs, sticking his tongue out, and we may have a name. I will let you know if the make it definite. It was a great visit.

When we left, out big dog Nick was not doing well. He would have been 12 in December. He has been the absolute best family pet! He acted ferocious when necessary(strangers near by)but, has always been just one big loving puppy. Our neighbor who is very fond of him took care of him while we were away. He said when we left he seemed so depressed, and wasn't sure he would last till we returned, but he did. We returned Thursday afternoon, and when I got back from errands Friday afternoon, he had laid down in a shady spot and passed away. He and Stella have been my company when I am here by myself, and I am going to miss him dearly. Yes, there were tears from both of us, so needless to say yesterday afternoon was a sad one. Looking forward to a good Sunday rest, church and some quiet time. Hope you all have a blessed 4th.

What have I been up to? Prayer Request and UPDATE

Here's a little of what I have been up to the past few days.

A little bit of sewing for my son.

Yes, all of these are very basic. Actually made up by me. I wish I could say these were whipped up in a few hours, but I am not quite as fast as many of the other ladies out there. I am also not a no sew girl. It's just not in me, especially when my husband bought me a nice machine. It is looking like a great summer to be inside sewing. The temperatures here have been close to the 100's with heat indexes of around 105. So glad we took vacation a few weeks ago!

PRAYER REQUEST

My girl is on her way to the Dr. She's not felt the baby move in a couple of days. We know that God is in control and always knows best. Please pray for her as she travels. She has a wonderful Mother-In-Law who is with her, only wish I were closer. I will keep you posted. Please pray for a peace and comfort for her regardless of the outcome.

UPDATE

Mom and baby are fine! Strong heartbeat and lots of movement when they did the ultra-sound.

Back from Vacation

We have returned from a week of vacation at Hilton Head Island, and a much needed vacation it was! The weather couldn't have been better! Even with a little rain we were still able to spend many hours on the beach every day! My husband loves the beach as much as I do, with the exception that I love to sit and read, and he likes to walk on the beach. When I 've had enough sun I just move under my umbrella. There's nothing like the sound of the ocean for some relaxation!

This little guy headed to greet us as soon as he saw ~~lunch,~~ I mean Stella.

If you are in the area Market Street Cafe is the place to eat! Reasonable prices, great service, and great food! This little Greek Cafe had the BEST Greek Pizzas. Toppings were fresh, and not your typical greasy pizza. A large variety from salad, gyros, assorted wraps and what looked like great desserts. We were just too full to give them a try.

I hope your summer is off to an absolutely wonderful start!

My Cup Is Filled

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the ladies conference, "Womanhood: What Am I Missing?" at Southern Evangelical Seminary, Charlotte, NC. The topics included were for women of every walk in life, whether single, married, young mothers or an empty nester like me. The best way to sum it up is that, It encouraged and challenged us for the times in which we live. We laughed and enjoyed each other's company, but most of all we were challenged to live godly lives as a woman of God, in a culture that encourages us to do just the opposite.

My accomodations were the best! One of my very best friends is Dean to Women at the seminary, and I stayed with her. It is not often that we get to see each other, but we seem to pick up right where we left off, as if we have never been apart. I hope you are blessed with at least one friend like this. Did I mention that her husband cooked breakfast for us both mornings? One great guy! We did a lot of catching up, but most of all I was encouraged not only by their love and hospitality to me, but the love they both have for the Lord, and for people. How many people do you know that, at the age of 50 will quit their job, move from a house that they designed and built, had just completed a beautiful remodel, to return to school to get their Masters Degree in Christianity, and dedicate themselves to teaching others to defend the faith, always desiring to share the gospel with those around them?

God always knows what we need, when we need it, and this was just what I needed. I am refreshed, challenged and encouraged to dig deeper. I challenge you to encourage someone with the love of Christ this week.

WORRY ABOUT NOTHING

PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING

What qualifies as a worry? Anything that drains your tank of joy-something you cannot change, something you are not responsible for, something you are unable to control, something(or someone) that frightens and torments you, agitates you, keeps you awake when you should be asleep. All of that now needs to be switched from your worry list to your prayer list. Give each worry-one by one-to God...Tell Him you will no longer keep your anxiety to yourself...The more you practice giving your mental burdens to the Lord, the more exciting it gest to see how God will handle the thing that are impossible for you to do anything about.

Sailing Into Summer!

I am not sure where the school year has gone, but it has passed quickly and next Tuesday will be our last day of school! I will say, I am looking forward to the break and working on the long over-due TO DO LIST!

Thanks so much for wishing me a speedy recovery from the Vertigo. It is much better, and I am only having slight dizziness. Hopefully this will be the last week of it!

This past Friday, Blaine had his SR. Art Show. Great turn out, great show, and he did sell one of his paintings which he was very excited about.

Here is Blaine with his friend Jimmy. They kidded Jimmy about being dressed like the artwork, so we snapped a quick picture. Jimmy graduated from UGA in 1957, worked in banking, then retired, then went back to school to obtain his art degree. He is such a supporter and encourager to all of the students.

We headed on to Athens for a visit with my Mom and Dad for Mother's Day, shopped a little, and just enjoyed our visit. Blaine came for lunch on Sunday, and now he's home for a few days. Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day, and you are having a blessed week.

Time to Get Cooking!

I know that I have been a ~~little~~ LOT absent around here, but not by choice. Things have literally been SpiNNing around here. Remember I told you that I woke up Sunday morning and everything was spinning? Me, the bed, the ceiling. Well, you get the picture. I have VERTIGO! Never had it before, and never want it again! Enough said about that.

May has ended up being a very busy month! I will probably be scarce around here at least until the first of June. Maybe I will still have a reader or two.

Went to the Dr. earlier today, and now I am COOKING. Really cooking. My boy has his Senior Art Show tomorrow, with one of his classmates, and I am cooking the sweets for the reception.

I forgot to tell you, that we will be leaving after the reception to go to my parent's house for Mother's day, subbing Monday, then headed to Charlotte, NC for a ladies conference at Southern Evangelical Seminary on Saturday. I am looking forward to the conference, but need a little rest between now and then.

I am praying that when my feet hit the floor this morning, that the bedroom will not be SpiNNinG! Yes, yesterday when my feet hit the floor, the room was spinning! I am not one to typically get a stomach virus, or anything resembling it, so it was a rough Sunday,alone! My good friend even had to come walk Stella for me. I will spare you the details, but I remained in bed until about 5:00 PM Sunday afternoon. Everytime I lifted my head off the pillow things were spinning, not a good feeling! I am praying today will be much better. Hope all of you had a wonderful weekend, and looking forward to a wonderful week ahead!

Remember I told you a while back that I'm going to be a Grandma?

Well today, we found out that it is going to be a BOY!
Can't wait! Ansley's due date is September 23, so she's almost half- way there. She and baby are doing well. Please continue to pray that her UC meds will not adversely affect our little boy.

They have been able to come up with plenty of Girl names, but no Boy names, so I know she would love to hear some of your ideas. They are looking for an old fashioned name vs. trendy. Of course I am not sure that they are not all somewhat old fashioned after looking on the internet at name ideas.

Ansley surprised me with a short visit this weekend. She just needed a dose of her Mama. She shopped my house, and took back several odds and ends to add to her decor. That is the best kind of shopping! We had fun, ate out, groomed Chloe, visited with some friends she used to work with, had a good day at church, and before we knew it, it was time for her to go.

YES, I am still here.

YES, I do realize my blog has been pretty Boring lately!

YES, my life is pretty ordinary these days.

Yesterday it was far too beautiful to be inside, in front of a computer screen, or even doing the much needed housework! This view was much better, and I did get my 5 blueberry bushes planted. The weather here has been absolutely beautiful!

Tonight was a great evening to watch a ballgame.

My nephew plays college ball. When they play at home, it is about a 45 minute drive for me.

He pitches and it has been a tough season, so I want to be there to support him whether he plays or not.

I also got a nice surprise! I was not expecting my sister to be there, but she made the drive with her husband, because he had said he might be pitching tonight, and she didn't want to miss it. He did, and they won with a homer in the bottom of the 9th!

Today while having my quiet time, I read some of it for the first time, and thought I would share with you.

Lord,

I search for some sense in life.

Recycling Garden Style

It was an absolutely beautiful day today so I did a little planting, actually a little cleaning out pots and planting. I thought I would share a few things that made it through our unusually cold winter, and I am in hopes that they will grow as abundantly as they did last year.

Little shoots from my spider plants.

I stuck these in the pot at the end of the summer, and they made it.

I pulled all of this from the pots,

Next week I will be dividing these.

Oak Leaf Hydrangeas

These came from a neighbor's plant that had lots of new shoots and she was willing to share with me. I will probably be collecting a few more of these, because the blooms make beautiful flower arrangements. What economical gardening tips do you have to share? Here We Go Again

This past Thursday a few of us ladies got together again for a light meal and fellowship. We had a wonderful time! We had some of the same ladies as before, and some new friends that joined us this time. Even when I was limited on time to prepare, I kept it simple, and with the help of my wonderful husband, everything was ready with time to spare.

I pulled out the Blue Willow dishes with navy placemats.

Found these little notes at Hobby Lobby. I divided the large package, and made individual sets for each lady with a few little lifesavers tucked inside. Iencouraged each lady to write a note to someone that God brings to mind in the next couple of weeks.

Thrift store eggs.

River rock and moss that I had on hand.

Snipped a little ivy and peach blossoms to tuck inside.

Result: A quick and easy springy table centerpiece.

The Gift of Kindness

Today while eating alone, I was struck by the kindness and thoughtfulness of a young boy about 12 years old. While eating with his parents, he turned around and asked me if I was eating alone. When I replied that I was, he simply said, "would you like to join us?" I was almost done, and they had just arrived. I asked him his name, and thanked him for his kindness, and told him that I was finishing up. We were not of the same racial background, yet, it made no difference to him .In a simple gesture of kindness, he reached out to me. It lifted my spirits, and I felt God reminding me that I am never alone. In response I wanted Justin to know what a special gift he had given.Upon leaving, I asked for the ticket, paid for his family, and had the ticket sent back to the table thanking Justin. I am sure the Holy Spirit was prompting me to do this, come to think of it, I don't think I have ever done anything like this. When the clock says 11:29 and you are still cooking!

Well,

not actually cooking,

but putting a few things together to cook tomorrow.

Do you remember I told you at the beginning of the year, I committed to have a group of ladies regularly for some food, fun and fellowship? Well, I did the unthinkable, the thing I said I would not do, absolutely no way, even marked it on my calendar to remind me, and I did it anyway! I said I would not agree to sub the day of , or the day before our ladies fellowship, and I did! plus I have subbed Monday and Tuesday both! Tonight and tomorrow is crunch time. I love preparing for these get togethers, I have just left myself no margin this time.

However I do want to share this absolutely wonderful recipe that I am making. We are having breakfast. Not just any breakfast. There is a BREAKFAST CASSEROLE in the fridge, and a FRENCH TOAST CASSEROLE in the fridge. Ready to pop in the oven tomorrow evening. We are also bringing muffins to swap.

*Just a note, this is not to be used while counting calories!

FRENCH TOAST CASSEROLE

8 Eggs 1 Tsp Vanilla

2 Cups 1/2 & 1/2 1/4 Tsp Cinnamon

1 Cup Milk 1/4 Tsp Nutmeg

2 Tbs Sugar Dash Salt

Loaf of French Bread 13-16 oz

Grease 9x13 casserole. Slice bread into 20 1 inch slices

Make 2 rows in casserole dish. Pour above mixture over bread (be sure to pour some in between slices)

Refrigerate overnight.

PRALINE TOPPING

1 Cup Butter 1 Cup packed light brown sugar

1 Cup chopped Pecans 2 Tbs light corn syrup

1/4 Tsp Cinnamon 1/4 Tsp Nutmeg

Mix well spread over bread before baking.

Bake 350 degrees, 40 minutes or until puffed and light brown.

Can be served with syrup.

Today

RAIN.

I enjoyed the beautiful sunshine yesterday, with no hint of rain in sight, and today I woke up to gray skies with rain on the horizon. Isn't that a lot like life? One day we are enjoying the sunshine of pleasant circumstances with no hints of rain in sight, and before we know it the rain is upon us. For those who know the Lord, we know that his grace is sufficient in these times of rain. The key is, drawing close before the rain comes. Are you drawing closer today?

visiting my boy,

picking Buttercups,

(an empty cup is a necessity if you are on the road)

doing laundry,

enjoying a good cup of coffee and a little sunshine!
